Rocca Torricelle 1997
This great Primitivo was produced from old bush vines grown in Manduria area close to the Mediterranean sea and surrounded by olives. Rigorous selection of mature grapes in a great vintage like 1997 and complete storage in big traditional oak vats for 5 years has produced this very fine example, with its bouquet and aromas denoting a superb concentration finishing on soft and smooth tannins. ’Torricelle’ (small towers) takes its name from the towers one sees all over the ionic coast, where they were built as watch towers to forewarn of Turkish and Saracen invaders. A fine companions for game, roasts and mature cheeses. Serve at room temperature 16-18 °C.
